[Let such a man fight against them with all his might: if he once gives way, he will be vanquished; but if he strives against his sufferings, he will conquer. As it is, however, what most men do is to drag down upon their own heads a falling ruin which they ought to try to support. If you begin to withdraw your support from that which thrusts toward you and totters and is ready to plunge, it will follow you and lean more heavily upon you; but if you hold your ground and make up your mind to push against it, it will be forced back. …]

Co však Chelčický a ideologové jednoty bratrské ? Poté, co již opatrněji posuzujeme možnosti a podmínky permanentního revolučního boje, přestáváme Chelčického literární pozůstalost měřit jen aspektem revoluční aktivity a pasivity. Zdá se však, že zatím jen vyčkáváme, až někdo jiný objeví v tomto svérázném mudrci jednoho z nejoriginálnějších českých myslitelů všech dob. Co je však podstatné, Chelčický nestojí mimo předchozí reformní proudy, on je svým způsobem syntetizuje a činí životaschopnými v nových podmínkách. Nejinak si však počínají i mluvčí jednoty, kteří naplňují českou reformní ideu novým obsahem. Skutečnost, že jednota i její představitelé byli namnoze z konfesijních důvodů idealizováni, nabádá k opatrnosti, nebrání však vidět jejich pozitivní snahu o eticky principiální přístup k sobě samým i ke společnosti, nemluvě již o jejich významu pro českou kulturu 16. století.
