Přes obdivuhodnou různost témat jsou si Aristotelovy spisy po metodické stránce většinou velmi podobné. Po vymezení předmětu zkoumání a zavedení pojmů, s nimiž bude pracovat, Aristotelés zpravidla přechází k analyse dosavadních zkušeností s řešenou problematikou. Z tohoto hlediska ho zajímá i stavba běžného jazyka, v jehož syntaxi, slovní zásobě a sémantice nalézá projevy věkovité zkušenosti lidských generací o světě. Velkou váhu přikládá i běžnému mínění lidí o zkoumané věci i své vlastní zkušenosti, získané často cílevědomým pozorováním příslušných jevů. Zvláště významné jsou však pro něho zkušenosti obsažené v názorech jeho předchůdců. Při analyse všech těchto mnohostranných zkušeností odkrývá v nich sporná, zdánlivě neřešitelná místa (aporie), která se snaží nahradit novým, plně racionálním vysvětlením. Tato metoda výkladu se stala základním vzorem pro vědecká pojednání na řadu staletí. Podobně jako u jiných Aristotelových děl není ani u Politiky jisté, v jakém pořadí bylo napsáno osm knih, z nichž se skládá dochovaný text tohoto spisu. …
