Nuže takto je tomu, Menóne, i se mnou samým; sdílím v této věci bídu svých spoluobčanů a vyčítám sobě, že vůbec /74/ nemám vědění o zdatnosti; a o čem nevím, co tj., jak bych mohl vědět, jaké to je? Či zdá se ti možné, aby ten, kdo vůbec nezná, kdo je Menón, o něm věděl, zdali je krásný nebo bohatý nebo urozený či naopak? Zdá se to to možné?
Men. Jistě ne. Ale ty Sókrate, doopravdy nevíš, ani co je zdatnost, a mám tuhle zprávu o tobě přinést i domů?
Sókr. Nejenom tu, příteli, ale také, že jsem se dosud, jak se mi zdá, esetkal ani s někým jiným, kdo by to věděl.
