… Ovšem každý, kdo má rozum a kdo píše o filosofii, ví nebo by měl vědět, že svět je ve své složitosti nevyzpytatelný a že cokoliv sepíšete, musí být vystaveno kritice – mělo by být podrobeno kritice , je-li na tom vůbec co dobrého. A měla by být nějaká platforma, z níž stojí za to provádět kritiku. To znamená, aby člověk byl rozumně úspěšný jako filosof, musí si opatřit novou platformu; nemusí to být úplně nový ideový program, ale nepatrná změna nějakého starého programu, jež může sloužit jako nové kritické měřítko. Kritika je hnací silou pokroku myšlení. Rád své žáky upozorňuji na to, že být v každém století, od té doby, co jste něco napsali, zavrhován, je vrchol triumfu. Uplatňuji tuto poznámku vždycky v souvislosti se Zenonem. Nikdo se o Zenonovi nezmínil, aniž ho zavrhl, a každému století stojí za to odmítat ho znovu.
