[Let such a man fight against them with all his might: if he once gives way, he will be vanquished; but if he strives against his sufferings, he will conquer. As it is, however, what most men do is to drag down upon their own heads a falling ruin which they ought to try to support. Budeme-li filosofii přísně rozpoznávat teprve tam, kde lze doložit pojmovost (práci s pojmy a s jejich komplexnějšími strukturami), budeme mít možnost zdůvodněně rozlišovat mezi různými předpojmovými myšlenkami, jež mohou být shrnuty pod název „moudrosti“, a uvarujeme se potom takových nesmyslů jako nluvení o filosofii (nebo dokonce metafyzice) u starých Sumerů, v počátcích buddhismu nebo staročínských tradic apod., a v neposlední řadě také o filosofii (a theologii) např. ve Starém zákoně resp. ve starohebrejské tradici (a ovšem budeme pak mít také vybudován předpoklad pro sledování proměny myšlení ve starém Řecku z předpojmovosti do forem pojmových až po skutečnou filosofii). Když budeme z této perspektivy zkoumat, jak bylo v evropské myšlenkové kultuře vtahováno do filosofických (tj. původně neřeckých) kontextů nejedno téma nefilosofické a předfilosofické, protože křesťané byli nuceni „vydávat svědectví“ o své víře (která byla objevena v neřecké tradici) jedinou tehdy dostupnou intelektuální formou, totiž řeckou, budeme tak mít příležitost nejen odhalit některé spojitosti dosud nám unikající, ale také vypracovat snad i vylepšenou metodologii filosofické interpretace nejrůznějších témat a „pojetí“ sice předfilosofických, ale s větší nebo menší úspěšností a účinností filosoficky interpretovatelných.
