Je zřejmo, že zkoumání axiomat náleží jedné vědě, a sice vědě filosofově.
Neboť axiomata platí vůbec o všem, co jest, nikoli jen o některém zvláštním oboru jsoucna s vyloučením ostatních. A každý jich užívá, poněvadž platí o jsoucnu jako o jsoucnu a každý jednotlivý rod je jsoucí. Ovšem po každé se jich užívá jenom potud, pokud jest jich třeba, to jest, pokud sahá obor, pro nějž se podávají důkazy. Z toho důvodu nikdo, ani geometr, ani aritmetik, jehož zkoumání se týče zvláštního oboru, nepokouší se o nich něco říci, zda jsou pravdivé nebo nikoli; pouze někteří fysikové. Dá se však dobře vysvětliti, že tak činili; byli totiž přesvědčeni, jenom oni zkoumají celou přírodu a také jsoucno. Ježto však nad fysika jest ještě někdo výše – vždyť příroda (fysis) jest jenom jedním rodem jsoucna -, přísluší asi uvažovati také o axiómatech tomu, kdo zkoumá obecno a první podstatu. I fysika je druhem moudrosti, ale není moudrostí první. Jestliže se však někteří z těch, kdo pojednávají o pravdě, o to pokoušejí, jak se ty věty mají přijímat, činí tak proto, že nejsou vzděláni v analytice, v nauce o dokazování. Neboť její znalost se pro první filosofii musí předpokládati a nemá se vyhledávat teprve tehdy, když jsme již posluchači první filosofie.

La tradition est oubli des origines, disait le dernier Husserl. Justement si nous lui devons beaucoup, nous sommes hors d´état de voir au juste ce qui est à lui. A l´égard d´un philosophe dont l´entreprise a éveillé tant d´échos, et apparemment si loin du point où il se tenait lui-même, toute commémoration est aussi trahison, soit que nous lui fassions l´hommage très superflu de nos pensées, comme pour leur trouver un garant auquel elles n´ont pas droit, – soit qu´au contraire, avec un respect qui n´est pas sans distance, nous le réduisions trop strictement à ce qu´il a lui-même voulu et dit … Mais ces difficultés, qui sont celles de la communication entre les „ego“, Husserl justement les connaissait bien, et il ne nous laisse pas sans ressource en face d´elles. Je m´emprunte à autrui, je le fait de mes propres pensées: ce n´est pas là un échec de la perception d´autrui, c´est /242/ la perception d´autrui.
