The text examines the ontological and epistemological nature of grasping a thought and the act of thinking itself. The author argues that one cannot approach a thought from the perspective of an external observer because thinking, as an internal process, is not directly observable from the outside. Understanding a thought requires an active and direct penetration into what is actually intended by the given act—that is, the intentional object to which the act refers, without that object becoming an immanent part or a mere component of the mental act itself. Access to this 'thought content' can be achieved exclusively through a new act of thinking that restores and reinstates the original intentional focus in its specific non-objectivity. The process of understanding another's or a past thought is thus a creative act of reconstituting meaning rather than a passive observation of a static object. This approach highlights the fundamental intentional nature of human consciousness and the specific, irreplaceable relationship between the subject, the act of thinking, and its transcendent content, which remains outside the act itself even though it is constituted by it during the act of cognition.
