This text examines the phenomenon of pre-conceptual understanding, which historically preceded the invention and development of conceptual thought. The author argues that humans were capable of authentically understanding situations and their roles within them long before abstract concepts were established. Today, however, we can no longer access pure pre-conceptual thought; its remnants are permanently entwined with our modern conceptual frameworks. This perspective is crucial for the reinterpretation of ancient myths and for understanding early critiques of myth, such as those found in the tradition of Old Israel. Furthermore, the work highlights the importance of this distinction when analyzing the encounter between the declining Greek and the reviving Hebrew traditions during the Hellenistic era of Christianity. Both traditions converged in an environment saturated with mythological relics, necessitating a precise methodological approach to avoid conflating distinct layers of thought. By distinguishing between conceptual and pre-conceptual worlds, the author seeks a deeper understanding of the religious and philosophical transformations that shaped the foundations of European thought, providing a clearer view of how early Christian identity emerged.

Porozumění (chápání) předpojmové
Lidé byli schopni „rozumět“ různým situacím a svému postavení (své účasti) v nich a na nich daleko dříve, než došlo k vynálezu „pojmů“; proto má smysl hovořit o „předpojmovém porozumění“. V obou případech šlo o setkání a střetnutí v prostředí plném reliktů a často přežitků nejrozmanitějších mýtů (a začínajících mytologií).
