This text explores the unique nature of philosophy as a discipline characterized by the absence of a final authority capable of defining its boundaries or essence. The author argues that the definition and purpose of philosophy are determined by philosophers themselves, guided by their own conscience and personal risk. However, this autonomy does not imply arbitrary or willful behavior; seeing philosophy as a discipline requires adhering to certain rules and norms that facilitate dialogue within the community. The text also examines the historical attempt to "scientize" philosophy by imposing the standards and methods of the exact sciences, a trend viewed as an opposite extreme to a total lack of discipline. Ultimately, the reflection presents philosophy as an autonomous field navigating the tension between individual creative freedom and the necessity of shared norms. It highlights that while philosophy must avoid being merely subjective, it should also resist being reduced to a mere imitation of scientific methodology, preserving its role as a space for independent intellectual inquiry.

Jde pak o to, zda jsou jiní filosofové ochotni naslouchat tomu, kdo takto disciplínu a disciplinovanost (tedy aspoň nějaká pravidla a normy) odmítá.
