This text explores the ontological relationship between a whole and its constituent parts, offering a critical reappraisal of the traditional view that a whole is simply more than the sum of its parts. The author highlights a frequently overlooked aspect of integration: when parts become integrated into a whole, they inevitably sacrifice a degree of their original autonomy and individuality. Consequently, the forceful decomposition of a whole does not merely diminish the whole itself but also inflicts further damage upon the individual parts. Upon separation, these parts do not automatically revert to their original state; instead, they lose the structural and functional compensations provided by the whole. This forced separation compels the part to strive for a new form of integrity and independence, which is inherently different from its pre-integration state. The reflection emphasizes the dynamic and transformative nature of the part-whole relationship, asserting that any structural change irreversibly alters the identity and essential nature of the components involved.
