This text reflects on the transformation of the author's social and ethical perspective within the context of Czech history from the late 1960s to the 1990s. The starting point is a recollection of the year 1968, when the author, writing for the magazine Tvář, cited Karel Havlíček Borovský's concept of a revolution of heads and hearts. At that time, the author prioritized the revolution of heads, emphasizing the need for intellectual and rational transformation in response to the political liberalization of the era. However, with the benefit of hindsight and following the experiences of post-communist development by 1994, the author revises this assessment. He concludes that in the current climate, a revolution of hearts is more urgent, pointing toward a need for moral renewal, deepened humanity, and individual spiritual transformation. The reflection thus captures a shift from seeking systemic and intellectual rectification to emphasizing the ethical foundations of human behavior and spiritual integrity, which are deemed essential for genuine and lasting social stability and freedom.
