The author posits that an authentic work of art is not identical to a material artifact but represents a non-objectual norm whose temporal locus is the future. To truly encounter such a work, an individual must transcend the boundaries of their current presence and, in a sense, leave themselves "behind." This movement is analogous to prayer, which does not focus on objectified idols but on pure non-objectuality, allowing one to gain the necessary distance from their own situation and givenness. This distance is the essential function of reflection, providing access to what is not yet given but what "ought to be." The entire process culminates in the question of truth, as it is only through the light of truth that one can distinguish between the genuine and the false, both in existing reality and in that which is yet to be realized.
