This text offers a critical reflection on Jan Patočka's work, specifically his book Europe and the Post-European Age. The author points out that Patočka, in his contemplations on European identity and destiny, places a one-sided emphasis on the Greek heritage as the sole foundation of European civilization. As a result of this perspective, Patočka interprets the current state as a decline or potential destruction of Europe, positioning humanity within a post-European era. However, the critique emphasizes that Patočka neglects the second crucial pillar of Europeanness: the Hebrew heritage and the Christianity built upon it. Without this dimension, European history and its contemporary crisis cannot be fully understood. The text argues that what Patočka perceives as the end of Europe is, in reality, merely the dissolution of a specific type of Greek metaphysics, while the Christian foundations of European reality remain unaddressed in his analysis. This omission renders Patočka's historical-philosophical interpretation incomplete and makes his pessimistic conclusions regarding the end of the European era questionable.

{Evropa u Patočky}
