This text explores the relationship between the subject and its capacity for orientation within its environment. The author posits that a fundamental attribute of any subject is the ability to relate to itself, a process that is predicated upon a prior engagement with the surroundings. This self-relation, a concept notably observed by Hegel, is only possible after an initial action directed outward and a subsequent encounter with the external world. A subject affirms its existence by participating in the transformation of its environment into a 'life-world' (osvětí). For conscious subjects, maintaining an oriented relationship with relevant realities is essential for identity. The text illustrates this by describing the disorientation experienced when waking from deep sleep or unconsciousness, where the loss of situational awareness leads to a fundamental uncertainty about one's own identity. Ultimately, the quest to understand who we are is inextricably linked to broader questions regarding our origins and our destination, both as individuals and as a species.

Orientace a subjekt
