This text explores the nature of teaching philosophy and its true purpose within the educational system. The author argues that one does not become a philosopher simply by acquiring information or historical facts about philosophy, a process that often produces experts in the field rather than genuine thinkers. For philosophy instruction at secondary schools and universities to have a valid justification beyond general knowledge, it must focus on the cultivation of a specific way of thinking rather than the mere transmission of data. Philosophical thinking is defined as a unique discipline that, while similar in some respects to the everyday reasoning of a rational person, differs significantly from narrow professional specializations and uncritical common sense. The primary goal should be the development of the capacity for independent and critical inquiry. This shift in pedagogical approach is essential for maintaining the authenticity of philosophy as a living intellectual activity that requires personal engagement rather than mere memory.
