This document examines Hermann Broch's reflection on the origin of mystical concepts and the subsequent critical commentary by Ladislav Hejdánek. Broch distinguishes between two types of mystical concepts: those derived from profound inner insight and those serving as pseudo-mystical expedients when naturalistic perspectives prove insufficient. A key problem Broch poses is whether the "Zeitgeist" belongs to the former or the latter category within his considerations on the death of culture. In his critical notes, Hejdánek scrutinizes Broch’s terminology, questioning the validity of labeling any concepts as "mystical" and demanding a clearer definition of the "naturalistic view" and its underlying concept of nature. Hejdánek suggests that Broch might be referring to "Mythos" rather than mysticism, drawing a connection to Plato’s Seventh Letter.
