This text explores the issue of meontology within the context of the history of ontological thought. It starts with a comparison between Nicolai Hartmann, who sought a new foundation for ontology, and Aristotle, who in his Metaphysics merely stated the existence of a science of being as being. The author considers whether the mere existence (the 'is') of such a discipline can be a sufficient guarantee of its integrity and unity. A key problem identified is that being itself cannot automatically ensure the internal unification of an entity, which is evident in the distinction between a mere heap and a true, internally integrated whole. The text argues that it is precisely this inability of mere being to guarantee its own integrity that makes the project of founding meontology essential. Meontology thus emerges as a necessary supplement or prerequisite for understanding the unity that traditional ontology often assumed but failed to justify solely through the concept of beingness. The reflection leads to a reassessment of the relationship between being, its unity, and the foundations upon which metaphysical knowledge rests.
