This text examines Jan Patočka's conception of Europe, focusing on his thesis of Europe as an inexhaustible beginning that continues to shape the identity of contemporary planetary humanity. The analysis explores the fundamental distinction between understanding Europe as a geographical entity and as a historical phenomenon. The author reflects on how the origin of Europe should be interpreted, critically noting a potential absence of Jewish and Christian roots in Patočka's framework, which are elsewhere considered constitutive elements. A significant portion of the text is dedicated to the future-oriented dimension of Patočka's philosophy, particularly the transition to a planetary epoch and the concept of a post-European world. Patočka’s vision presents Europe as a dynamic process that possesses both a specific historical origin and an inevitable historical conclusion. This perspective allows for a deeper understanding of the transformation of the European legacy within a global context and the role this legacy plays in shaping modern civilization and the universal human condition.
