This text provides a critical reflection on the concepts of history and historiography in Bedřich Loewenstein's work, specifically his thesis that history as a whole does not represent the realization of meaning. The author challenges this assertion through an analogy with the natural sciences, specifically biology. It is argued that just as biology focuses on living entities even though nature as a whole is no longer considered alive in the modern sense, historical science should distinguish between methods investigating meaningful events and the mere description of facticity. The reflection questions the value of so-called "alogical" history, which abandons the search for coherence and reduces history to a simple sequence of contingencies. The text defends the legitimacy of historiographical inquiry that focuses on the meaning of historical events and processes, thereby transcending simple factual description. This approach allows history to be viewed not as chaos, but as a structured, justifiable whole with internal logic, necessitating scientific examination beyond the mere recording of past events.

Dějiny a dějepis
Vždyť to je něco ještě méně než pouhé vypsání, popsání proběhlých dějů, neboť i tyto děje stále ještě mají nějaký smysl a nejsou pouhým řetězením nahodilostí.
